This year I decided to take a different approach to the New Year. Instead of the " New Year, New Me" I started to evaluate how 2016 went. Unlike many other people, 2016 was a great year for me. I received another internship, met many new people that have helped me grow and progress into my degree and I felt like it was an excellent platform for my future.
This year I decided that it would be a " New Year, Same me" and focus on building on top of my previous goals I have so much more ambition, motivation and hunger to make this a great year and I am very excited.

I never thought I would have said this, considering how much I enjoy going to school, but I am very glad this semester is over! I used some of my tips and got through finals just fine, and now I am enjoying the holidays with my family in Northern California.
I am also very pleased to inform you all that I accepted an Internship offer with Northrop Grumman in Ogden, Utah. I will be the first Manufacturing Engineering Intern at this facility, so makes me a little nervous, but I am excited to start it! I am partly sad that I did not accept my other offer from the company that I interned for last summer, but I am looking forward to networking with more people in Utah, not having to move and being closer to family and friends. Thank you all for your support in this blog! It warms my heart to look at the stats and realize that it is more than my parents reading it! Merry Christmas! XOXO E Finals, the week that we all dread in college. Now, this guide isn't going to make you ace all of your tests, but it will sure help you get through it all!
1. Find a study buddy or two... As I have mentioned before, my boyfriend and I are often known for grabbing some dinner and spending hours studying on campus in the library. It really does help to stay focused versus if we were separated texting each other to make sure we were alive. 2. Have a couple things up your sleeve! If you know me well enough, you would know that I absolutely love tea! I love sleepy time tea, green tea, non caffeinated tea to drink and cheer me up! Another thing that has saved me during this finals week is the Aveda Hand Relief creme. It smells like heaven and Utah winters always make my hands so dry. 3. Take a minute to just relax! During finals week I make sure I take a quick study break every couple hours and either play one of my puzzle apps or just take a minute to soak all of the information in. 4. Stay Organized. I have a calendar that I add all my finals and I have created a small schedule outlining when I should be studying for which classes and that has helped out a lot! It is important to manage your time wisely so the less time you can spend guessing what you should be doing. I hope this helps you all! Happy Studying XOXO Being a minority in all of my classes and industry definitely took some getting used to, so here are some the ways I was able to overcome this a little more. How I got thicker skin As you may know men love to joke around and will pick at any topic that they find embarrasses you. Before I came to college, I was one of those people that would take everything a little too seriously, but since then I have definitely loosened up. I have learned that it is so much easier to laugh and blow it off than to get all butt hurt about it and hold it in for a while, I mean after all, they aren't meaning for you to hate them after! Working Out I can be a very stubborn person so I love being to pull my own weight in my classes whether this is moving large machines, torquing bolts, or just using my muscles. My good guy friends know not to underestimate me when it comes to my little power. As Shakespeare has once said " Though she be but little she is fierce". This is a quote I definitely live by! I just feel so much better when people believe in me! Just being myself! If you don't know me let me sum my personality up for you in a sentence: I am the girliest tomboy you will ever meet. I absolutely love wearing dresses, having my nails painted pink, however I wouldn't trade my steel toe boots for anything! This definitely surprised many of my school mates seeing a girl wearing a dress running around in the engineering building. Don't worry- I made sure I was always properly dressed for my labs! This encourages young girls to hear that you don't have to wear cargo pants and other boyish clothes to fit in to be an engineer. As you know, there are a lot of changes when you go from high school to college, and especially when it's in a whole other state. It was hard to adjust at first, I had to balance classes, schoolwork, and friends, which I learned very quickly didn't always work out. I started to learn during my Sophomore year exactly how important my schooling and future was to me. A lot of my friends at the time didn't share the same passion I did for my future. I mean I would far rather sacrifice being the beer pong queen for being one of the tops of my class. I started dating my very best friend who has the same view as I do on school and cherishes what we have coming for us in the future. The best thing I have ever done for myself was to get involved in college! Becoming involved can help you in so many different ways- it has helped me receive scholarships almost every semester, be able to travel, and connect me to jobs that I might not have found otherwise. With that being said, here's how I was able to get involved!

Support System |
This is the first part to my Secrets to Success series that I would like to include on this blog. I have learned so many great pieces of advice from advisors, mentors, and recruiters and I would love to be able to share it with others!
Resumes
The greatest resume advice I have ever received came from a Boeing representative at a career fair- she said that I should keep a word document of my accomplishments and jobs so I could customize a resume for a job interview or career fair. Sometimes it's hard to think on the spot of what you learned at an internship 2 years ago or the stats you helped your last company grow. This saves time and effort and might even help you nail that next job interview! Another great piece of advice I have for people is to include some personal information on there, especially something you love! The interviewer might resort to asking these questions to lighten up the interview. A few things I have included in my resume was how I converted my car from automatic to manual transmission (actually landed me my past internship), that I have traveled to 3 countries enriching myself in different cultures, museums, and foreign car manufacturers.
If you choose these extra personal pieces of information carefully it could trigger great questions relating to major parts of the job. As I briefly mentioned, the experience of converting my car from automatic to manual transmission landed me my internship at Solar Turbines. My boss later informed me of this and explained that this key piece of information showed that I am mechanically inclined and basically how I can apply the knowledge that I have taken information away from my classes.
Elevator speech
Ahh the elevator speech. The first time I attended a Society of Women in engineering (SWE) conference, we were joking around on an elevator about an elevator speech, but there happened to be a recruiter from a company in there with us. From this experience I learned how important it was because it is your first impression with a recruiter from a company. A catchy elevator speech could be the difference between you getting an interview or being declined.
This shows how well you can present and briefly explain yourself as quickly as possible, so you better choose carefully! Interviews
Dress Comfortably! My go to interview look is either one of my favorite skirts from Ann Taylor ( Linked) or a comfy pair of slacks with a nice shirt. I have made the mistake so many times of trying to look cuter while sacrificing comfort and I have regretted it every time. Wearing scratchy or too tight clothing can make you fidget, which people really pick up on! When you wear something professional, yet comfortable your confidence really radiates and can help you nail some tricky questions!
Another great piece of advice is to find a cute pair of flats especially if you are going for an interview out in an industrial environment. The interviewer might take you on a facility tour however there might be clothing restrictions. The other reason for this is unless you are a model/ God / or just a pro at walking in heels it can be tough and uncomfortable to walk and could have a damper on your confidence level.
Other Interview Tips-
I really enjoy having a nice looking portfolio to take in to the interview. It keeps your resumes looking nice and you can store documents such as letters of recommendation, extra paper, or a list of questions you have for the employer. I have one that has my school's logo on it and absolutely love it!
