Being a minority in all of my classes and industry definitely took some getting used to, so here are some the ways I was able to overcome this a little more. How I got thicker skin As you may know men love to joke around and will pick at any topic that they find embarrasses you. Before I came to college, I was one of those people that would take everything a little too seriously, but since then I have definitely loosened up. I have learned that it is so much easier to laugh and blow it off than to get all butt hurt about it and hold it in for a while, I mean after all, they aren't meaning for you to hate them after! Working Out I can be a very stubborn person so I love being to pull my own weight in my classes whether this is moving large machines, torquing bolts, or just using my muscles. My good guy friends know not to underestimate me when it comes to my little power. As Shakespeare has once said " Though she be but little she is fierce". This is a quote I definitely live by! I just feel so much better when people believe in me! Just being myself! If you don't know me let me sum my personality up for you in a sentence: I am the girliest tomboy you will ever meet. I absolutely love wearing dresses, having my nails painted pink, however I wouldn't trade my steel toe boots for anything! This definitely surprised many of my school mates seeing a girl wearing a dress running around in the engineering building. Don't worry- I made sure I was always properly dressed for my labs! This encourages young girls to hear that you don't have to wear cargo pants and other boyish clothes to fit in to be an engineer.
